Understanding Metering

Sunday 13 October
Williamsville - 12pm - 2 Hours
Konstantinos Tsigkrelis
Metering is an incredibly important aspect of photography to grasp. You might have heard about the exposure triangle but I believe we should be talking about an exposure square with metering being the forth side as it is equally as important to getting the correct exposure as your aperture, ISO and shutter speed.
We will explore how and when to use each of the metering options and how to use it to get some creative lighting in your shots.

Very informative. While I knew some of the settings on my camera Konstantinos did a great job explaining them better and teaching about settings I didn't know about. He is very knowledgeable and I am looking to sign up for more events as I progress with my photography.

Konstantinos was knowledgeable, patient, and explained things very well. The handout he prepared is helpful for me as a reminder for the things he taught us. I like that he used our individual cameras to make sure we understood how to use them specifically. I feel much more prepared to get out of Automatic.

Konstantinos Frizz was really great guy that explained the basics of photogrpahy in an easy and understandable way. I took an online class years ago with a different photography group and it didn't make sense. Konstantino drew pictures to explain things and it helped. I would like to take other photography classes now with him and Buffalo Photography Group. Thank you

This image was taken on the evening of 8/20/24. I had been noticing the clouds all day and was eager to get out and take some photos as soon as I could. When the evening came around, I decided to get some shots of the clouds over the falls. I did exposure bracketing and merged the images in Lightroom and edited with Photoshop. The end result was a SUPER moody image of the clouds overlooking the falls and skyline.

The school where this photo was taken closed twenty years ago, and has been abandoned ever since. Just like many other places in Buffalo it has been through multiple developers looking to update it, but so far no one has broken ground. I went in before dawn wanting to experiment with low light photography, and when I saw this auditorium I knew it was perfect. I spent an hour taking shots as the light slowly crept in.

On this particular day it was a very cloudy / rainy day. I brought my camera with me to the grand island bridge and I set up directly centered in between the bridge to get a good leading line. Setting my camera to a two second timer I took the photo and created a moody / dark tone to match the weather forecast.
